Dabs vs. Herbs: Exploring the Differences and Similarities

In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in the popularity of dabs, including in Brazil. As a result, many herbal enthusiasts are curious about this emerging global trend. In this article, we will analyze the differences and similarities between dabs and herbs, helping you to better understand these two ways of consuming Cannabis.

The Growth of Dab Culture in Brazil

We can't deny that dab culture is on the rise, and this is evident even in Brazil. In addition to Cultura Dab, several national brands offer specialized products for extracting concentrates. With this growing fame, it is natural that herbal consumers want to understand the nuances between these two forms of consumption.

Dabs vs. Herbs: Differences in Preparation

Let's start by exploring herbs. They derive from a variety of Cannabis plant strains, presenting different colors, densities and textures. After harvesting and a curing period, the herbs are ready for consumption. You can use them in pipes, bongs, silks or vaporizers, making the process simple and accessible.

Now, let's move on to dabs. Dabs are Cannabis concentrates, resulting from different extraction methods. Concentrates come in several forms, including BHO (Butane Hash Oil), hash, shatter, wax and rosin. Many of these names directly reference the physical form or production process of dabs. For example, BHO uses butane as a solvent and is produced with an extraction tube.

Although most concentrates are produced with solvents such as CO², isopropyl alcohol or butane, new extraction methods, such as water-based and static electricity, have become popular. Concentrates are extracted directly from dried flowers, resulting in a purer and denser final product. Although herbs and concentrates are different, they both represent distinct forms of the same plant.

Dab is Stronger than Weed

The differences between dabs and herbs go beyond appearance. Consumption methods and effects also vary considerably.

In general, concentrates are much more potent than herbs, as they contain 70% to 99% psychoactive components, while flowers only have about 15% to 30%. This means you need a significantly smaller amount of dab compared to herbs to achieve the same effects – about five times less.

The purity of dabs is not the only reason for their greater potency. The form of consumption also plays a fundamental role. Torch vaporization methods reach very high temperatures and extract the components in a more authentic way, while the process of rolling a joint, for example, can result in the loss of around 50% of the flowers' original components.

How to Use Dab

If you've always consumed herbs and are interested in trying dabs, it's important to choose an extraction method that suits your preferences. You will also need the appropriate accessories, such as nails (similar to bowls, but for dabs). Remember, you only need a small amount of dab to get the same effects you are used to from herbs. Concentrates have a reputation for being potent, but you can have a pleasant experience if you take it easy.

Final considerations

While dabs may seem like a modern trend, they have deep roots in the history of cannabis and represent an ancient tradition that has seen a resurgence. However, this does not make joints obsolete. The choice between dabs and herbs depends on one's personal preferences. Both forms of consumption offer unique experiences.
